verizon doesnt use sim cards at all. they are cdma and att is gsm

I recently broke my ipod; My dad offered to give me his old iphone 4 for verizon to use as an ipod. My question is will I be able to connect it to a computer and use it as just an ipod without having a data contract hooked up to it?

If you are worried about the contract tell him to cancel it and then remove the sim card this will work better then a average ipod

iPhone 4s from Verizon Wireless questions!! Please Help!!!?
Recently my bad quality verizon cell phone has stopped working and conviently I am due for an upgrade. I want the iPhone 4s because it can do so much and all of my friends who have it, say it works better then other cheap phones.
I have the new iPod Touch (4th generation…the one with the camera) but am thinking of selling it to help pay for the iPhone…since the iPhone does everything the iPod Touch does plus more. Ok so here are my questions…feel free to answer any that you know the answers too.
1) To get a 16 GB iPhone 4s from Verizon Wireless at the 2-year contract price…is it true that it would just cost me $200?
2) What is the lowest data package I can purchase for my iPhone from Verizon Wireless?? I don’t have much money to pay for internet fees and my mom says I must get the CHEAPEST amount of data possible.
3) Is there any point in keeping my iPod Touch…or do you think I should sell it, since the iPhone has the same features?
4) Does texting on the iPhone require wifi?

1) There’s a few other things you need to pay for. Your out the door price will probably be $300 as they’ll try to sell you the dock, the case, extra adapters, and so on
2) about 20 or 30 extra per month.
3) That’s entirely up to you. It can serve as a good “backup” device.
4) No, texting (i.e. SMS) is sent through cellular channels. The WiFi thing is sent through a gateway provider and is NOT really texting, but emulation of texting.

can tmobile unlock an iphone 4s already on verizon wireless?
i want to buy an iphone 4s from my friend. He has verizon wireless and i have tmobile. Obviously his iphone is on verizon. If i take the iphone to tmobile will they unlock it for me? If i take it to verizon can they unlock it for me? basically i wanna know if verizon or tmobile can unlock an iphone 4s already on verizons network. Thanks

The iPhone 4s is a world phone, capable of working on both Verizon’s CDMA and T-Mobiles GSM servies
T-Mobile will NOT unlock it for you though… You will have to unlock it yourself, and then get a micro-sim from T-Mobile to work with their service.
